Data Security and Erasure

Hard drive

One of the key concerns in PC disposal for all organisations is the security of data held on electronic storage devices, such as hard drives in PCs, laptops and servers.

At Microteam we take security very seriously, from the moment the kit is collected to the time of datawipe.

Why erase data?

Microteam is an approved partner of Blancco Data Cleaner, the world leader in datawipe. By using Blancco’s extensive product range, Microteam can offer a wide variety of data erasure solutions which guarantee 100% effectiveness.

Blancco is certified to 14 internationally recognised standards – in particular HMG Infosec 5 Enhanced Standard and US Department of Defense 5220.22-M. All erasure is carried out in a secure environment, using the enhanced method required for highly sensitive data. Detailed asset reporting and certifications are produced by Microteam in various formats.

Please see product sheets for more information.

If a hard drive is found to be inoperable, it is removed from the device and secured in a holding cage where it is logged for destruction through the following process:

  1. Drive is removed from machine and labelled
  2. Blancco report is updated to say that the drive has been removed
  3. Drives are then placed in secure holding cages
  4. The cages are then transported under escort to our recycling partner
  5. The drives are then lowered into a hydraulic counter-rating shaft shredder that reduces all the material into 50mm strips.  This stage guarantees that the data will have been destroyed by now.
  6. The shredded material is then transferred to a granulator which further reduces the material to 20mm pieces.
  7. The materials are then separated for onward processing.

A competent member of staff will oversee throughout the above datawipe procedure to ensure that all materials are destroyed.

All destruction is certified.
